Statistical Multiplexing Simulator — Fit More Users on One Link

Circuit switching reserves each user's full rate all the time; packet switching bets that users are quiet most of the time and admits far more of them. This simulator lets you set the link capacity, per-user rate, and how active each user is, then shows the circuit limit, how many users packet switching can admit, and the real overflow probability — the exact 10-versus-35-users trade-off from the NET DIVE series.

What you can do in this simulation

  • Watch a live grid of who is active right now and when the link overflows
  • Compare the circuit-switching limit with the packet-switched user count
