Kirchhoff's Laws

Engineering challenge: KCL: sum of currents at a node = 0. KVL: sum of voltages around a loop = 0.

Scenario

A circuit has a 24V source, and three resistors: R1 = 8Ω (series with source), R2 = 12Ω and R3 = 6Ω in parallel. Apply KCL and KVL.

Scored questions

Question 1

What is the equivalent resistance of R2=12Ω and R3=6Ω in parallel?

Question 2

Total resistance = R1 + Rp = 8 + 4 = 12Ω. What total current flows from the 24V source?

Question 3

By KCL, voltage across parallel combination = I × Rp = 2 × 4 = 8V. What current flows through R3 (6Ω)?

Question 4

KVL states that the algebraic sum of voltages around any closed loop is:
