Pollution Dispersion — Air & Water Contaminants
Pollution dispersion models predict how contaminants spread from a source through air or water, determining exposure concentrations at receptor points. This simulator implements a Gaussian plume model for atmospheric dispersion and an advection-diffusion model for river pollutant transport. Changing source strength, meteorological conditions, or river flow rate immediately updates the concentration map.
What you can do in this simulation
- Set point-source emission rate and stack height for the atmospheric Gaussian plume
- Adjust wind speed and atmospheric stability class to reshape the concentration plume
- Switch to river mode and simulate advection-diffusion of a pollutant slug downstream
- Read ground-level concentration at receptor locations downwind of the source
- Apply a pollution reduction measure and compare before/after concentration maps
