Pulley Systems Simulator: Mechanical Advantage & Block-and-Tackle

This pulley simulator shows how a block-and-tackle multiplies force. Each rope segment supporting the movable block carries a share of the load, so with n supporting segments the mechanical advantage is n and the effort needed is only weight/n. Add segments and watch the effort force fall until a modest pull lifts a heavy load โ€” the principle behind cranes, sailing rigs, and gym cable machines. But there's no free energy: to raise the load a small height you must pull n times as much rope, so effort times rope pulled equals weight times height. Live labels show the effort, the mechanical advantage, and the rope-to-lift ratio, and a card tells you whether your chosen strength can raise the load. Predict lift-vs-no-lift, then pull to hoist it. It's the simple-machine cousin of the lever and hydraulic press.
