Quantum Potential Well Simulator — Wavefunctions & Tunneling

This quantum potential lab shows wavefunctions ψ_n and probability densities |ψ|² inside infinite wells, finite wells, and tunnel barriers for quantum numbers n = 1 to 5. The left canvas draws the wavefunction with dashed energy-level lines and exponential evanescent tails in finite-well mode. In tunnel mode, incident (blue), evanescent (purple), and transmitted (green) wave segments are shown across the barrier with the transmission coefficient T displayed. The right canvas plots ground-state and excited-state energies for five well widths to illustrate the 1/L² quantum-confinement scaling.

What you can do in this simulation

  • Switch between infinite well, finite well, and tunneling barrier modes
  • Adjust quantum number n (1–5) and well width (0.3–5 nm)
  • Set barrier height V₀ (5–100 eV), barrier width (0.1–2 nm), and particle energy
  • See transmission coefficient T displayed for the tunneling mode
  • View energy scaling chart for 5 different well widths on the right panel
